Obituary for Clyde Scursatone

Clyde Scursatone, 86, of Hopewell passed away in Fairfield, CT on Sunday November 12th, 2017. Born November 21, 1930 in California, PA, he was the son of the late Claudio and Rose (Marraccini) Scursatone.

He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from California University of PA and a Masters in Education from West Virginia University. He served in the United States Air Force.

In his 41 years as an educator, he was a favorite teacher and coach to countless students in the Hopewell Area School District. He brought humor, patience, and passion into his classrooms. Clyde taught by example. He inspired his students to contribute to society with his mantra “There’s no such thing as a free lunch.”

He was a member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Aliquippa, American Serbian Club and the American Legion.

Clyde spent the warmer weather working in the yard and his garden. He was an avid golfer, and a member of Shadow Lakes Country Club.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and uncle, who will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joyce (Maravich) Scursatone; children Deborah (Gregg) Dickey ; Daniel (Carol) Scursatone; Annette Scursatone; sister Barbara (Joseph) Martinelli; sister-in-law Carole Maravich; nephew Craig (Sarah) Maravich; niece Nicolle Maravich; great niece, Imogen “Idgy” Maravich; grandchildren Kristen (Timothy) Mahoney; Lindsay Dickey; Sarah (Scursatone) Barrett. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Allie, Colin, and Logan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Norma Szalay and Thelma Grey.
Friends will be received Friday from 4 to 8pm in Tatalovich Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa, Pa. 15001.
Family and friends will gather Saturday at St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church-2200 Irwin St., Aliquippa, where a service will be held at 11am, with Fr. Branislav Golic, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Elijah Church Cemetery-Hopewell Twp., at 12pm, with the Beaver County Special Unit, conducting military honors.
Pomen (blessing service) will be held Friday at 7:30pm in the funeral home.
